Re: Practice Exams after VCP550 course
I did build a lab on my 4 years old laptop, so you should be OK.
If you don't have a Workstation license, you could use this guide : http://www.virtxpert.com/installing-esxi-in-virtualbox/
Re: Sleep/hibernate without VM process termination
Hi emusic,
For S3 Sleep, try adding to the virtual machine's configuration:
chipset.onlineStandby = "TRUE"
That should keep the vmware-vmx.exe process running when the guest enters S3, which I'd expect would allow your serial port to remain connected throughout the sleep-wake cycle.
Our virtual machines do not implement S4 Hibernation.

Re: vmhgfs module not compilable for VMware Tools 9.9.0 (Fusion7.1) after Ubuntu Linux kernel update to 3.13.0-46-generic (Febr. 2015) (Shared Folder Feature not working in Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Guest) on MacOSX Yosemite (Host))?
The same goes for the current Debian (stable) release (7.8). Kernel 3.2.65.
I hope this is fixed soon.
vcenter 4.1 to 5.1 database upgrade hung
vcenter 4.1 to 5.1 upgrade is getting hung. sso and inventory service installed fine. I went through the installation as simple install and not custom.
Its stuck saying vcenter databsae can take up to 15 mins but its been over 2 hours.
The vcenter db logs are over 90gb. db is over 20gb
any idea what is going on?
Re: Practice Exams after VCP550 course
You will need at least 8GB of RAM (preferably more), but the cost of upgrading go what you have or buying a new system with that specification should still be less than renting a lab, plus you'll be able to use it for other things.
Run Windows or Linux on the physical system, with VMware Workstation or Player to run the VMs hosting ESXi/vCenter, add a VM running something like FreeNAS or an iSCSI target for shared storage.
HaVe a look here: http://www.labguides.com/autolab/
Re: Sleep/hibernate without VM process termination
Excellent!
Thank you very much for the option. Works exactly as needed, kernel debugger remains connected and no messages are lost now.
S3 is quite enough for my needs.
Re: Internal Error While Starting Virtual Machine After Crash
It looks like you're running your VMs from an NTFS-formatted drive using the Paragon NTFS driver. Have you tried using Disk Utility to verify the integrity of that NTFS partition? The error messages suggest strongly that the NTFS filesystem might be corrupt or there may be a problem with the NTFS driver. (I expect that the NTFS driver wasn't available when you used the Recovery Environment to check the disks.)
If that volume also checks out OK through Disk Utility's First Aid option, you might either need to upgrade your Paragon NTFS driver from version 11 to version 12 (which their website claims is the first version with Yosemite support), or you might need to attach the drive to a Windows machine and have Windows perform its own native filesystem check on the volume in case Paragon's filesystem check is missing something.

Re: Need driver for Network
Welcome to the Community,
a quick Google search returned http://www.techygeekshome.co.uk/2014/04/vmwarenicdrivers.html which might be what you are looking for.

Re: Upgrade windows 7 to 8.1
Welcome to the Community,
there are sometimes issues reading CDs/DVDs at all (usually with physical media), but I never saw wrong files being displayed. Please double-check that the ISO is the correct one, i.e. contains the Windows 8.1 binaries using e.g. 7zip, or another application which can read ISO images.

Re: Help - Error "Disk.vmdk has one or more internal errors that cannot be fixed"
I tried repair method "Repairing a sparse virtual disk in Fusion (1023888)" but it does not work.
In terminal i wrote "sudo /Applications/VMware\ Fusion.app/Contents/Library/vmware-vdiskmanager -R <HD location>"
I got message that "the virtualhard disk is corrupted and can not be repaired".
Thanks,
Re: Linux Guest NAT DNS Trouble
/etc/resolv.conf has nameserver 192.168.28.2
That is the DNS windows guests use and they can work correctly, also it's what is used when going through Virtual Box and they work correctly as well.
Re: Linux Guest NAT DNS Trouble
This is really bizarre.
For test purposes, please create a new virtual machine attached to a NAT network, and boot it into the Ubuntu live CD/DVD (i.e. connect and boot from ubuntu-14.10-desktop-amd64.iso and choose the "Try Ubuntu" option), then launch Firefox. The guest OS should automatically configure itself using DHCP. Can you browse to https://communities.vmware.com/ from inside that virtual machine?

Re: ThinApp licencing issue
As you have used ThinApp trial version, the IE6 ThinApp you have captured will not execute after the trial period (60 days).
vROPS 6 disk space question and rebalance
Hi all I've a setup that is now composed by 1 Master Node, 3 Data Node (2 added after the installation) and 2 remote collectors (one will soon become a Master Replica).
When I created the VM I added a 250 GB disk so that the total storage for vm is 500 GB each .
At this moment it seems that the disk space used in the /storage/db is really different between the nodes and the master node is becoming full really fast.
Master: /dev/mapper/data-db 463642mb 379658mb 60436mb 87% /storage/db
Data: /dev/mapper/data-db 463642mb 109511mb 330583mb 25% /storage/db
Data: /dev/mapper/data-db 463642mb 220762mb 219329mb 51% /storage/db
Data: /dev/mapper/data-db 463642mb 144517mb 295573mb 33% /storage/db
On the storage db I've moved also the logs because the log partition was getting full and searched for heapstack to delete but there's nothing.
On the master node this is the space distribution:
2.8G activity
136K alarmxdblog
98M blob
4.1M config_backup
299G data
4.0K heapdump
42G hisxdb
361M hisxdblog
19G rollup
6.8G vpostgres
589M xdb
339M xdblog
Another Data node:
2.8G activity
356K alarmxdb
136K alarmxdblog
4.0K blob
4.1M config_backup
117G data
17M heapdump
8.0G hisxdb
28M hisxdblog
7.2G rollup
5.0G vpostgres
876K xdb
348K xdblog
The /storage/db/vcops/data directory is the real difference between for spaces in the nodes.
I've tried a disk space rebalance that had run for almost 30 hours but this is the result I had at the end.
Is this normal and I should expand more the storage/data disks of all nodes or there's something I can do to rebalance the disk space better?
Thanks
Francescoo
Re: Thinapp Entry Point Target Location ?
Do you mean how to change the Entry point shortcut location? If then, add the line "Shortcuts=" in the package.ini under the corresponding Entry point section.
For eg; Shortcuts=%Desktop% creates entrypoint shortcut on the user desktop.
Re: Linux Swap / Windows Paging monitor
Yes I saw them... there's about 10 metrics all related to swap of the VM (externally in esx host) but nothing about memory consumption/swap for the internal vm. It's strange as there are metric for disks inside the VM so I can monitor c: or / disk space without the need of an agent but to know how much memory is swapped/paging I need an agent.
vSAN on vSphere 5.5 - how to effectively give the disk space for cluster on Windows 2012R2?
Colleagues, deployed vSAN 5.5 on 3 physical servers.
How to most effectively now c in terms of performance pay part of the fault-tolerant array in a cluster of Windows Server 2012R2? In this particular case we are talking about the cluster file server, but would like to have a solution once and for cluster MS SQL2012.
Thank you for your help!
Re: Help - Error "Disk.vmdk has one or more internal errors that cannot be fixed"
I can't promise anything, but if you want I will take a look at the virtual disk files.
To help figure out what is what, the best way to provide comprehensive diagnostic information is to use the "Collect Support Information" command from the VMware Fusion (menu bar)> Help > Collect Support Information and then attach the .zip file (or .tgz file if pre-version 6) it created on your Desktop to a reply post.
