any idea?

Hi Guys
in my 5.1 host i have updated one server with the latest vmware tools 9.10.5, after had to reboot the server.
after the server didn't comes back, and won't boot shows first windows logo and than just black screen for ever.
OS is Windows 2008R2.
tried to log into safe mode but it sucks on the loading files
please advise how to fix this.
André,
Are you sure that is still needed these days?
The installer should have a manifest file (embedded or not) to ask for administrator rights if it is required, that is quite standard and not difficult to do from a developer point of view.
I seem to remember the installer asks for elevation, I certainly do not run the installer with admin rights on windows 8 myself.

managed to fix the problem
people with the same issue please follow the below steps
Boot with Windows 2008r2 server installation DVD, select repair and open a command prompt.
Type diskpart
Type select disk 0
Type list partition
then note the partition number where you installed windows 2008r2 server.
Type select partition X (X is the partition number where Windows is installed)
type active
type exit
type bcdboo c:\windows (if C is your windows partition)
@demigodmac - Thanks for the update demigodmac. Not too long now until the El Capitan launch, so hopefully we'll a get a fix sooner rather than later.
I found this thread this evening, thought I'd respond quickly. First, the Unitrends Free for VMware (including free/unlicensed ESXi) is here: http://www.unitrends.com/products/enterprise-backup-software/unitrends-free This version protects 1TB - unlimited VMs, retention, etc. It also supports Hyper-V and physical Windows servers and clients. You backup locally and can send backup copies to AWS, Google, and other third-party cloud providers. You can also do instant recovery.
Second, to the question "autumnwalker" asks - as everyone knows, VMware does not allow the use of VADP to do host-level snapshots for free/unlicensed ESXi. So we support host-level protection if you had "paid" (or licensed) VMware vSphere - and we support agent-based protection if you're using free. Since we offer instant recovery for VMware and Windows, you can do instant recovery in both the paid/licensed version of VMware vSphere and in the free/unlicensed version of VMware vSphere.
Hello,
have you installed CDO 1.2.1 (Collaboration Data Objects) before you launch VDP Tool...
"If you use the VDP Exchange configuration tool, the MAPI client libraries and CDO 1.2.1 must be installed on the server you intend to run that tool on.
When you install the MAPI client libraries and CDO 1.2.1, it is recommended that you perform that step before you create the VDP Exchange account."
anyway in my opinion the "current user" error applies to VDPBackupUser account not to the user currently logged, unless not required (only for Exchange 2007) try to add
VDPBackupUser account to the domain admin group at least temporarily.
Hi all,
I really wasn't sure where to post this, hopefully it's ok here - if not please feel free to move.
I'm converting w2k3/w2k8/w2k12 servers to a different VLAN, which requires an IP change on all 3 network cards we have per server. To speed up and bring some standardization and eliminate human error I have a script which renames network cards, add new IP details - this all works great and isn't really the main reason i'm here.
As I mentioned we use 3 network cards, during the conversion process i select "none" for network, meaning once its on the other side we add new network cards, but only after running devcon to remove the previous cards - Which I do to ensure that when the new network cards are added start at "local area connection, local area network connection 2 and local area network connection 3" or for w2k12 "Ethernet, Ethernet 2 and Ethernet 3" within the OS - The script will look for each of these connections, rename and assign the correct IP based on this,
The problem i have and i want to see how others deal with this (or have recommendations), is as follows.
After doing the above we go to "VM > edit settings" and add 3 network cards, please note that the Network Labels that must be in a particular order here and this is where i have problems - If i add all 3 network cards in one go windows seems to randomly assign with becomes the lowest label - i.e. the first card I add in "VM > Edit settings" may not be the first network connection within the OS - The work around is obviously add one network card, assign network label and apply, go back in add second etc etc - but this isn't ideal.
Anyone have any suggestions on how i can ensure the first network card/label added in "VM > Edit Settings" is the lowest network label within the OS?
for clarity, i am asking this because the script i have requires the lowest network connection to be the one assigned in "VM > Edit Settings" to ensure the NIC is renamed correcty, and the correct IP details are applied with netsh commands.
Thanks
B
Hi -
The account being used to install the IaaS server must have sysadmin, serveradmin and public boxes checked.
You will need manually create the account in the SQL server database and use that account to install IaaS server, incidentally that account should also be a member of Admin for the IaaS server. Jad mentions this in his video but you need to listen out for it. Its also stated in the install guide as well.
Hope this helps.

Actually, this could be a VMware problem.
Look at the log file for the driver which VMware Tools installs to handle these activation issues:
C:\ProgramData\VMware\RawdskCompatibility\vmrawdsk.log
You'll see this:
Windows OS is earlier than Vista; driver exiting.
Even though you're on Windows 10.
Hi,
regarding reverting to the EVAL mode...this is possible only if some eval days remained at the moment of switching to the licensed version. If they weren't exhausted
you can switch back to the eval mode through Config tab -> Software, Licensed Features.
If there are no eval days left the only option is to reinstall the host, regarding existing datastores you will be asked in interactive installer what you want to do with them
(preserve, overwrite...) it depends on their layout and ESXi installation location. It is always recommended to backup VMFS datastores before you will proceed with setup.
Because API limitations of the free ESXi version you are quite limited with backup solutions one of the option is ghettoVCB.sh - Free alternative for backing up VM's for ESX(i) 3.5, 4.x & 5.x
LACP is only supported on vSphere Distributed Switches (VDS) and yes this feature to be deployed and configured requires vCenter server.
Hello,
Having issues with running the vCenter 6 Client Integration Tools in Chrome. Chrome will not recognize the tools as being installed although they are. We had the same issue with Firefox and solved it following the explanation in this link...
However, the fix described there for Chrome did not work for us.
Anyone else experience this?
Hi folks,
I am running vSM 5.5
Every time i tried to access it via Chrome or FireFox i get "Server has a weak ephemeral D-Hellman pub key"
I can only get to it via IE.
Anybody ever seen that before?
Hi folks.
I am trying to deploy a vxlan.
A simple enough process when everything works. The problem I am having is, well, step 1. Host prep.
vSM creates the portgroup but does not create the associated vmk's. I did a manual install of vxlan.zip on each host but still nada.
Logs on the ESXi hosts dont show much each as well. It kind of seems like the vSM is not talking to the hosts, but I cant find anything to point me in the right direction.
Any help would be appreciated.
1. Try to do t a startup repair on the server using Windows DVD
2. Try to boot the server using last known good configuration mode
Hi all,
Have Workstation Pro version 12.0.0 build 2985596 on a windows 7 x64 host.
Have just installed a windows 10 guest and all was good until I installed VM Tools. How when I shutdown the W10 guest via the start menu in W10 VMware crashes. This did not happen before the installation of VM Tools. In fact I can go back to a snapshot before VM Tools was installed and there are no problems.

Hi,
I'm trying to passthrough my Quadro K2000 video card to a Win 7 64bits VM, but when i power on the VM the ESXi freezes completly, can't event do CTRL+ALT+F12 to view the kernel messages
Also tried with a Quadro 6000 and same problem happens.
I can passthrough a usb 3.0 controller without problems.
Anyone seen this kind or problem before? Is there anyway i can debug what the problem may be?
MB: Asusrock rack EPC602D8A
CPU: Intel Core i7-3820
RAM: 16GB
RAID: LSI MegaRaid 8888ELP
Before this hardware, i had an ASRock 890FX Deluxe5 motherboard with an AMD Phenom II X4 and the passthrough with both nvidia cards worked ok.
I was frustrated with the lack of support for two finger scrolling for VM's under Windows 8 so I built on Andrew Zabavnikov's program,
making a Windows Trackpad Scroller for VMWare. It should work for Workstation or Player. Both executable and source are there.
